Aileen's story

AILEEN 2 .JPEG

Aileen's daughter Alison got in touch following her mum's diagnosis of dementia seeking social support for her mum. Alison lives out of town and visits as often as she can. I supported Aileen to go out for lunch in Broughty Ferry every 2nd week, this started in May. While there we chatted, played some games and enjoyed lunch together. The staff at Bowman’s got to know us very well -  in fact months down the line it transpired they thought I was Aileen’s granddaughter. I loved hearing this, for me it was confirmation that everything I was doing was exactly how it should be. Blending in while out and about just like friends/family. We would always enjoy a sing song on the way home, not a care in the world about being off key, just enjoying the moment. In August the family were going to be away on holiday so an additional visit was started on Monday and Friday’s for welfare checks - we chatted, played games, checked Aileen's family group chat keeping her up to date with her granddaughter's travels and stories and we would respond and update them on how she was.
